Scolarships from Red Hat for creating world class open source software

Are you an IT firm which is feeling the heat of the competition breathing down your neck? But you do not want to dilute your principles and go that extra mile to get the winning edge. So what do you do? If you are an open source firm, then you harness the tens and thousands of IT aware young minds from developing countries to create applications for your platform. And as an incentive, promise attractive cash prizes in form of scholarships. This is exactly what Red Hat has done.

Red Hat is conducting a competition for the students of the Indian sub continent and its neighbouring countries Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. The competition is open to students who are studying for B.Tech,B.E, B.Sc (IT or Computer Science), MBA (Systems/IT streams), MCM and M.Tech .

To participate, the student or group of students (maximum of 5 nos per group) should develop a piece of high quality open source program in any of the following areas :
  • Localization of Indian Languages
  • Development of open source Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) frameworks
  • Applications for small and medium businesses
  • Audio and video applications for smart appliances or cellphones
  • Software for GIS
  • Network and security related tools and
  • System software and tools
